Florence Barclay

1862 – 1921

Florence Barclay was an English romance novelist and short story writer born on the Isle of Jersey. Her father was the Anglican rector of Limpsfield, Surrey, but she along with her two sisters were moved to London when she was seven.

Florence did not start writing until she was in her forties, when serious health problems left her bedridden and she wrote her first novel as a pastime activity. Her second novel The Rosary, a story of undying love, was very successful, eventually translated into eight languages and made into five different-language motion pictures. It became the No.1 bestselling novel in the United States in 1910.

Florence Barclay wrote ten fiction novels in all.
